Hannah Wang

Hannah Wang was born in Perth, Western Australia and began piano at the age of 3½ years old, coming under the tutelage of Mr Yoon Sen Lee in 2014 at the age of 5. She also began violin lessons at the age of 4.

At the age of 10, Hannah achieved distinction in the ATCL (Associate of Trinity College London) examination as well as her AMusA (Australian Music Examinations Board Associate Exam) with distinction awarded by both the University of Western Australia and Adelaide University in the same year. At the age of 12, she completed
the LTCL (Licentiate of Trinity College London) examination and the LMusA (Australian Music Examinations Board Licentiate Exam) with distinction, being awarded the Licentiate Prize for the highest marks in the examination.

Hannah won 1st Prize in the Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition and was invited to perform in the Metallener Saal Musikverein, Vienna in 2015. In 2016, she performed as a guest artist in Carnegie Hall, New York in conjunction with the Golden Key Music Festival. In the same year, she participated in masterclasses under Ingrid Fliter and performed at the Summer Festival at the Incontri col Maestro Piano Academy in Imola, Italy.

In 2017, Hannah won 1st prize and was named Young Talent of the Year at the Concours International Piano Competition in France. She was also selected to compete in Astana Piano Passion and finished as a semi-finalist. Later that year, she won multiple sections and was named top 5 pianists across all categories in the
GOCAA Global Youth Pianists Competition in China, being selected to perform with the Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra the following year, where she performed Beethoven Concerto No. 1. In 2018, she won 2nd Prize at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, Connecticut USA and in 2021, she was both a winner
of the CCTV National Piano Competition in China and a finalist in the Chopin Avenue International Piano Competition.

Locally in Western Australia, Hannah has also won multiple sections at various competitions since 2014. Most notably, she was named WA Pianist of the Year winning the top award in the WA Pianists Competition in 2019,
2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Also in 2022, after winning 5 sections including the Concerto and Open Championship Recital in the Fremantle Eisteddfod, she was named Best Pianist as well as Best Instrumentalist of the entire competition.

In June 2019, Hannah performed a movement of Chopin’s Concerto No. 1 with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in Western Australia and in September 2022, she performed the entire Grieg Concerto with the Fremantle Symphony Orchestra. She also had the privilege of performing Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3
1 st movement with the Methodist Ladies’ Symphony Orchestra in 2024, when she completed ATAR Music as an accelerated student in Year 11.

Hannah is currently a first-year medical student at the University of Western Australia studying a Bachelor of Biomedicine with an Assured Pathway to the Doctor of Medicine under a Winthrop Scholarship.
