Sophie Lin

Sophie Lin was born in Perth, Western Australia. She began piano lessons at the age of 5, transferring to Yoon Sen Lee Music School at the age of 6 where she won her first competition just months later, at the Joondalup Eisteddfod. Under Yoon Sen Lee’s tutelage, Sophie was provided with outstanding musical education with all aspects including aural, theory and composition. Sophie completed her Grade 8 AMEB exam at the age of 11 and went on to complete her Associate Diploma from the Trinity College of London (ATCL) a year later at the age of 12.

 

At the same time, she won silver in the American Association of the Development of the Gifted and Talented international competition (AADGT) and was invited to perform in Carnegie Hall in New York. She is a music and academic scholarship holder at St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls, and played trombone, percussion and guitar in the school ensembles and orchestras. She went on to achieve her Licentiate Diploma (LTCL) in 2015.

 

She has won prizes at many competitions including the South Suburban Eisteddfod, Western Australian Piano Competition, Fremantle Eisteddfod, Kwinana Eisteddfod, Joondalup Eisteddfod and also Cockburn Eisteddfod. In 2017, she graduated from St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls receiving a General Exhibition, Subject Exhibitions in Mathematics Methods and Chemistry and was awarded the Winthrop Scholarship to attend the University of Western Australia.

 

She completed an undergraduate Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree with a double major in Medical Sciences and Music Studies, performing as both a soloist and in university choirs, orchestras, and small ensembles. In 2023, she achieved her Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Western Australia. She enjoys music teaching and performing as a balance to her work as a junior doctor.
